Canadian Ski Resort Refreshed By Late-March Snow

Winter '23/'24 will be remembered for a pesky El Niño pattern that brought warm temps and wet precipitation across North America, and a 'Miracle March' that delivered snow from coast to coast.

Lake Louise Ski Resort, located near Banff, Alberta, Canada, took to social media on Friday March 22, 2024 to share photos of an overnight storm that deposited roughly 5 inches (12cm) overnight. See below:

The overnight snowfall didn't dump feet of snow, but a few inches sure are a pleasant sight for the sore eyes of a skier dreading the impending end to winter.

April is right around the corner, but skiers visiting Lake Louise are still enjoying mid-Winter-like conditions. The resort currently has 151 of 164 named runs open with a healthy base of 63 inches (161 cm).

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for the next week, which should preserve the snowpack and prevent the freeze-thaw cycles spring skiers are accustomed to.

Lake Louise opened for the season on November 3rd, 2023, making it one of the first ski resorts open on the continent. They plan to spin lifts through May 5th, conditions and weather permitting, of course.

Happy (still) winter to our Canadian friends to the North. It's been a weird season for us south of the border too, but we're glad to see Father Winter make a last-minute return.
