Canadian Ski Patrollers Attempting 2,000 Push-Ups For Mental Health Awareness

Fernie Alpine Resort, British Columbia's patrol team is participating in the Push Up Challenge for mental health this month. Each patroller must complete 2,000 push-ups before February ends.

Thirty-three patrollers are participating, so they'll complete 66,000 push-ups together once the challenge is done. It looks like that avy dog might be a participant, too—good boy or girl.

Proceeds from the challenge's donations benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association, which, according to the patrol team's donation page, works "to support mental illness recovery and foster positive mental health outcomes in Canada."

The Push Up Challenge was unofficially founded by Australian Nick Hudson in 2017 when he gathered a few mates for some collective fitness accountability. The goal? Each complete 3,000 push ups in a month. Future iterations of the event became increasingly official, with the goal of raising money for mental health getting tacked on in 2018.

The rest, you could say, is history. In 2023, the Push Up Challenge had 215,000 participants and raised $14.6 million (Australian).

The Fernie ski patrol team is doing their part this winter. So far, they've raised $2,815 (Canadian), nearly reaching their goal of $3,000. I hope their pectoral muscles are holding up all right.
