Canadian Ski Area Remains Closed Indefinitely

Troll Ski Resort, a small, British Columbian operation, remains closed amid warm temperatures and low snowfall.

The resort issued a reminder of the paused operations in a humorous Instagram post shared yesterday.

Troll Ski Resort initially paused operations on January 29th this year after warm weather arrived in the Pacific Northwest, and it intends to reopen if snowier conditions appear.

The CBC reports that January 2024 saw multiple high-temperature records throughout British Columbia. Rain, another enemy of ski resorts, accompanied the high temperatures.

While British Columbia's Whistler Blackcomb has managed to avoid closures thanks to its higher elevation terrain, other resorts in the province, like Mt. Seymour and Mount Timothy Ski Area, have shuttered. (Mt. Seymour hopes to reopen, weather and conditions permitting).

Troll Ski Resort is one of British Columbia's humbler offerings. It has no chairlifts—only t-bars—and has a vertical drop of 1,729 feet. Whistler Blackcomb, which probably isn't a fair comparison, but here goes anyway, has around triple that amount.

Troll Ski Resort, though, has an advantage. In an era of super resort conglomerates and gobsmackingly expensive tickets, Troll isn't trying to do anything other than be a ski area. It's one of the little guys, and the little guys can do certain things the big guys can't. And vice versa.

Here's to winter delivering Troll Ski Resort another round of snowfall. They typically call it quits in April, so there's still time for a comeback. Do those snow dances!
