California Ski Resort Issues "Dump Alert," Nearly Two Feet Of Snow Possible

Yesterday morning, Mammoth Mountain, California, issued a dump report due to the arrival of a foot of fresh snow.

Then, later in the day, the resort reported that even more snow had fallen, as the storm total neared 20 inches.

By the time you're reading this, Mammoth may have issued another update. However, last night wasn't supposed to be mega like yesterday afternoon. Still, conditions should be stellar out there today.

All the snow Mammoth has started receiving is part one of a multi-part storm cycle. Earlier this week, an "atmospheric river" began blasting the West Coast, eventually delivering Mammoth its first round of snowfall. But it's only looking to get more wild from here.

In his forecast yesterday, meteorologist Chris Tomer predicted that Mammoth could see 84 inches of snow by February 10th.

NOAA—a government forecasting group—corroborates Tomer's claims. As of yesterday afternoon, NOAA's forecast called for 19 to 25 inches of snow at Mammoth this coming Sunday, with continued snowfall into next week.

The soggy start to February hasn't been all good news, though. In an article published Thursday, CNN noted that flooding occurred in Southern California, with multiple road closures. While conditions are drying out temporarily, CNN warned that another stronger blast of wet conditions is set to hit the state on Sunday.

That's bad news for those working in the infrastructure business, but it could bring stellar skiing conditions to California's ski resorts, including the likely frontrunner, Mammoth. Stay tuned.
