Bound Books has been embraced by the community, so it's holding a first birthday party

When Sarah Timmcke and Chuck Blair opened Bound Books, downtown York's charming book shop/plant shop/cafe, the community welcomed them with open arms.

Nestled on North Beaver Street, the scent of freshly brewed coffee, printed pages invited visitors to stay for a while. Some would probably stay all day if they could. It was the type of business that "downtown needed," they heard from many of their guests.

Bound Books began as a fun idea that the two bookworms wanted to explore. Their fiery enthusiasm and dream of discovering a world outside of the 9 to 5 world fueled the concept. It was a way to take all the things they both love - sitting with a cup of coffee, a good book, in a relaxing environment surrounded by plants - and turn it into a place they hoped others would enjoy.

A quiet and relaxing environment to work, read, and even socialize at, Bound Books has become a staple in York. Blair and Timmcke have made the community feel right at home, through hosting book club meetings, family friendly reading events, local author book signings and more.

They said time flown by since opening. And while it's been a fairly exhausting year of their lives, running a business, the pair said it has certainly been one of the most rewarding. They said they've enjoyed meeting customers and their families, hosting events, and being a part of the downtown business community.
