Deciphering fashion trends used to be clear-cut. The designer runways would determine next season's attire, with the high street following suit in a trickle-down effect. Take Barbiecore, its origins easily traced back to Valentino's iconic AW22 entirely pink show before being amplified by the release of Barbie and Margot Robbie's commitment to method dressing.

Then TikTok entered the chat, sparking such microtrends as the mob wife aesthetic and laying claim to setting the fashion status quo. However, there's one trend both the SS24 collections and the social media platform both agree on: 'office siren'.

TikTok has been looking to the '90s and '00s silver screen for inspo, with The Devil Wears Prada's Serena, played by Gisele Bündchen, the unofficial poster girl for the look. But IRL, no one embodies business sleaze better than Bella Hadid. And her latest look is all the proof you need.

Stepping out in New York yesterday [Thursday 2 May] Bella was wearing head-to-toe Gucci in a grey blazer and micro skort suit. She layered a nude tank top underneath and added a black leather belt with the fashion house's interlocking G logo buckle. Gucci's Bordeaux bucket bag was slung over her shoulder, with embossed Horsebit platform loafers completing the 'fit. The final touch to truly nail the trend came from Bella's rectangular black frame optical glasses. All collective signatures of office siren attire.

It may be niche, but business-appropriate outfits imbued with a subtle sexiness – be it a micro hem length or an extra button undone on a blouse – are officially the style du jour. And Bella, as ever, was way ahead of the trend taking to Instagram last December in a busty blouse and another pair of specs.

It's a stark contrast to the past year, with 2023 coined the year of the girl following such trends as 'girl dinner', 'girl maths' and uber-feminine style hallmarks including coquettish bows. Though some critics argue that's exactly what has prompted this new era of boss babe.

Either way, if you want to get in on the office siren look, you better get yourselves down to Specsavers, stat.
