Bike to Work Day 2024: How to register, more

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The D.C. area’s annual “Bike to Work Day” is just over a month away.

On May 17, transport organizations encourage commuters to hop on a bike and get to work that way.

Cyclists will take to the road rain or shine — and organizers said that the first 16,000 people who register and attend will get a free t-shirt. Organizers are also giving away a new bicycle.

The event is free to attend. You can bike alone or find a “ride buddy” to partner up with.

The event’s website said that the League of American Bicyclists started the day for Bike Month in 1956. In the D.C. area, the event grew from a small group in 2001 to thousands of participants, with a record of 18,700 participants before the COVID-19 pandemic.
