Big wave surfer Shane Dorian has been a household name for surfers for decades.

He spent over a decade on the World Championship Tour, appeared in the Hollywood blockbuster "In God's Hands," and established himself as a big wave surfer long ago.

Nowadays, he hunts wild game at home on Hawaii's Big Island, coaches the Hawaii Surf Team, and goes on surf trips with his teenage son, Jackson Dorian.

Last week Dorian embarked on a stem-cell treatment journey to Mexico, and he's invited the public to join him via social media.

Yesterday he posted his third update above and captioned it:

"Quick update on how I’m feeling 4 days after my stem cell treatments. Feeling really great physically. I don’t expect to notice any improvement from the treatment for at least a month.

"The stem cells I got are active in the body for up to 12 months so I need to follow the protocol which won’t be easy, especially the start where I can’t surf (ugh) or train at all.

"The goal is to be able to surf more and continue doing all the things that bring me joy for as long as possible.

"Will keep the updates coming in the coming weeks but thanks for following along and all the messages I’ve received. @cpistemcells @scottyotm."

Friends gave Dorian some love in the comments. Check out a few below:

Nathan Fletcher: "Hope all goes well!!!! You’ll be back in no time."

Skyler the Surfing Dog: "Love this and your updates! healing happens!"

Jeannie Chesser: "Glad you're ok! Take care...love you

Darrick Doerner: "Heal my friend @shanedorian. There will always be another swell."
