Big Wave Surfer Kai Lenny Foils in San Francisco with J.O.B. as His Wingman

It must be tough for Maui big wave surfer Kai Lenny to find new things to do since he does it all. Which makes sense, since his middle name literally is Waterman.

He surfs huge waves, hydrofoils, kites, stand-up paddles, tow surfs, windsurfs, and can probably bust out some mental moves on a boogie board, too.

Sometimes, he puts new twists on old tricks. Like tow surfing behind horses, saving puppies and fishing on foils, and sharing huge party waves with windsurfers. Now, he's got another weird surfing experience to add to his list.

And it's foil surfing the wake of an enormous ship.

Lenny captioned the video above:

"Foil Surfing a Cargo Ship Wave under the Golden Gate Bridge

"The day was freezing and we met a local that would take Jamie O'Brien and I out to foil the wake of a huge Cargo Ship. The waters outside the bridge felt super sharky and I'm glad we pulled it off!"

The five-minute video opens with Lenny and O'Brien out on a boat in San Francisco.

"Okay, we're out here, Golden Gate Bridge in the background, hydrofoil, I'm gonna get towed in behind a giant tanker surfing the waves. It's gonna be pretty insane, hope I don't get ran over or eaten by a shark."

In the end, it looks like Lenny's biggest challenge was being cold.

Strangely enough, he's not the first pro surfer to surf a tanker's wake. O'Brien mentions that he's done it in Texas and Ben Gravy surfed a ferry wake in Germany last summer.
