Best Beauty at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, So Far: Red Lips Are Dominating the Red Carpet and Updo Hairstyles Are Trending

Red is the color on the lips of the stars at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Anya Taylor-Joy — appearing on the carpet alongside “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” costar Chris Hemsworth — steals the show in Old Hollywood glam with a strongly lined red lip and bleach blond updo. She wore all Dior, as expected, as ambassador for the brand. Done up by Georgie Eisdell, the makeup artist reveals Taylor-Joy is wearing Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil in #001 Pink with Rouge Dior Contour in #999 and a velvety matte Rouge Dior Lipstick in #999. (The line was created by Dior’s creative and image director Peter Philips, who celebrated the launch with Taylor-Joy and fellow face of the brand Rachel Zegler in Los Angeles in February.)

Jury member and actor Eva Green had her lips crimson-red and glossy using Charlotte Tilbury, with help from makeup artist Harold James for the screening of Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness.” Argentinian actor Agustina Palma, too, went for gloss. Hers was courtesy of Lancôme, created by Olga Stasevich. For Barbara Palvin, at the premiere of “The Apprentice,” it’s Tobi Henney behind the look using Tom Ford Beauty.
The red hues have come in various shades on the carpet; Cambodian actor Yubin Shin was among those in a darker berry-red, while Saudi beauty founder Yara Alnamlah had just a hint of color for a more natural look.
Meanwhile for German-Turkish model and actress Meryem Sarah Uzerli, the pout was as classic as it gets for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis:” a cherry-red matte by makeup artist Chynara Kojoeva.

In hair, the trend has been classic updos as seen on actor Lily Gladstone and influencer Livia Nunes or relaxed waves, like on Léa Seydoux (star of “’The Second Act”) and Emma Stone (star of “Kinds of Kindness”). Stone had hers done by her longtime hairstylist Mara Roszak, who used her haircare brand RŌZ. Other standouts include actors Juliette Binoche and Elaine Zhong Chuxi with modern slick-backs; Margaret Qualley with an added hairband accessory; models Taylor Hill with a pixie cut and Naomi Campbell with a big, curly ‘do.
