Berks churches schedule Memorial Day Weekend events [Religion Digest]

• Salem Belleman’s Church, 3540 Belleman’s Church Road, Centre Township, will be holding its annual Memorial Day service and picnic on Monday. The picnic begins at 1 p.m. and includes food items, snacks, ice cream, beverages and desserts served from the refreshment stand at the church’s Fellowship Hall. At 2:30 p.m., the service will be held, including presentations on both cemeteries. From 4-7 p.m., there will be a concert by the Washington Band of Annville.

• A Memorial Day weekend community worship service will be held in the grove of St. John’s (Hain’s) Church, 591 N. Church Road, Lower Heidelberg Township, on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. to remember those who lost in their lives in service of the U.S. as members of the armed forces. The guest speaker will be Christopher Bower from the Veteran’s Coalition of PA.

• St. John’s Gernant’s Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road, Ontelanuee Township, will have a special Memorial Day celebration service Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Bible Study will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m.

• The Church Guild at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 5 W. Arch St., Fleetwood, is having its annual rummage sale on Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and next Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon. Parking available on church parking lot or municipal lot on Arch Street. Gently used clothing.

• Dave Kline and the Mountain Folk Band will present a free concert at Hill Church Picnic Grove, 620 Hill Church Road, Pike Township, on June 2 from 4-7 p.m., rain or shine. Refreshments available. A free will offering will be accepted.

• The 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Washington Township, will include a time of silence during the pastoral prayer in recognition of Memorial Day.

• Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will hold Coffee and Conversation at 8:30 and 10 a.m. on Sunday in the Welcome Center.

• United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. Penn Ave., will offer Bible study Tuesday at 9 a.m. by Zoom and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in person and by Zoom. Email maryettamest@aol.com for the Zoom link. A free community meal will be served Thursday from 4-6 p.m., and the Children’s Closet will be open during that time. The Walking Group will meet next Saturday at 8:30 a.m. on the campus of Wernersville State Hospital. A wine and strawberry festival will be held next Saturday from 3-6 p.m.

• Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Washington Township, will recognize its graduates during the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

• The Rev. Kenneth Gould will return to Salem Lutheran Church, 8410 Lancaster Ave., Bethel Township, to lead the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. A social hour will follow the service.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will hold a free drive-thru take-out meal today from 4:30-5:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

• The Rev. Kim Adamson will serve as guest pastor during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Road, Muhlenberg Township. The church will be having a used book sale from May 31-June 2.

• St. Joseph’s Church, 1018 N. Eighth Street, Reading, is holding a flea market from June 6-8, which will include a rummage sale, raffle and homemade food. Hours are 4-7 p.m. on June 6 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 7 and 8.

In order to have an event listed in the religion digest, it must be something that is not just a regular worship service.
