Ben & Jerry’s dishing out free ice cream cones to help out Grand Strand Miracle Leagues

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Ben & Jerry’s has opened scoop shops to dish out free ice cream to fans since 1979.

The tradition began in Vermont where the company is headquartered and has grown across the country to include places like Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand.

Fans get their free scoop of ice cream from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday at six Ben & Jerry’s stores in the region. There are two locations at Broadway at the Beach, one at the Breakers Report in the 2100 block of N. Ocean Boulevard, one at the Caribbean Resort in the 2900 block of N. Ocean Boulevard, one at the Paradise Resorts in the 2200 block of S. Ocean Boulevard and one location at Tanger Outlets off Highway 17.

In addition to giving out ice cream, Ben & Jerry’s of Myrtle Beach will partner for the 16th year with the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues to spread the word about the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to offering individuals with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball, soccer, golf and cheer in a safe and encouraging environment.

They are hoping that each free cone or cup will bring in a donation of at least $1, enabling the nonprofit to raise more than $13,000.

There will also be a few “celebrity scoopers” stopping by, including several members of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans who will be at Broadway at the Beach with the team’s mascot Splash. News13 meteorologist Scotty Powell will also be one of the “celebrity scoopers.
