Ben Gravy Faces Sketchy Scenario Surfing Big Wave Spot Waimea Bay

Ben Gravy has a reputation as a "novelty" wave surfer.

That's because he's surfed more than his fair share of weird waves. For instance, he's scored shin-high bombs on Lake Geneva and boat wakes in Germany.

But this winter Gravy paid a visit to the North Shore, where the waves are anything but novelty. He's been living the dream board caddying for Jamie O'Brien, surfing firing Rocky Point, and in his latest vlog, he surfs the notorious big wave spot, Waimea Bay.

Gravy captioned his latest vlog above:

"Duck diving nightmare scenario in Hawaii.

"Today was awesome! I got to introduce Will to some plus-size waves & I almost got myself into quite a pickle with the Nightmare Duck Diving Scenario that almost played out as I was inches from getting sucked over the falls on the biggest wave of the day.

"There's not a ton of footage of it happening, but you can see how sketchy it got for a second! Even so, we got some super fun waves & got to charge a tiny bit! Thanks to everyone for the support on our Hawaii videos, for the dream! - Ben"

Gravy opens the video up early in the dark and ready to dawn patrol.

"We're not gonna beat around the bush this morning, the boys are scared," he says.

Gravy and his buddy, Will, who's visiting the North Shore for the first time, are psyching up to surf "10 to 15-foot" Waimea Bay.

Humbly, Gravy says, "I know that's not crazy for a big wave lord, but for a regular wave Dave like we are, that's nuts."

A quick call to Jacob "Zeke" Szekely for a gun and the guys are ready to go.

In the end, Gravy survives a hairy duck dive situation and ultimately, "had a good time."
