Beloved Downhill Commentator Shines In Broadcast At Legendary Rally Event

For years Rob Warner has been the voice of World Cup Downhill, manning the booth during both the Freecaster and Red Bull eras of broadcast.

In 2023, when Red Bull lost the broadcast but kept Warner under contract, many wondered what he would do. As it turns out, Rob is a talented broadcast personality across sports. Watch him cover the pits at the Dakar Rally for Red Bull below.

In this video, Warner takes the viewer on a tour of the camp at Dakar. Like Downhill, Rally teams range from privateers to luxury superteams! In addition to touring the venue, Warner and colleague Nicola Hume go deep into the stories from the rally here.

Though the worlds of motorsports and mountain biking are different, there is more overlap than one might think. The dirt bike category in the Dakar rally has produced some big names in the mountain bike world.

Max Commencal, the founder of two iconic French bike brands and race teams (Sunn and Commencal) got the idea to start making bike frames after competing in the rally!

Dakar is one of the most iconic rallies in the world. Though it is no longer a Race From Paris to Senegal as the name suggests, the legend of the race lives on.

It is nice to see Rob Warner thriving covering other events. Thankfully, Red Bull will broadcast some non-World Cup racing this year like Hardline. We at BIKE can’t wait to hear Warner’s iconic excitement in the booth.
