New beer garden in Hingham this summer with live music, food trucks. Kids and pets welcome

HINGHAM − Untold Brewing is partnering with the Hingham Maritime Center for "Making Waves," a spring and summer beer garden series set on the shore of Hingham Harbor.

The series will take place on one Thursday a month from May through September. The series kicks off on Thursday, May. 16.

The series will include live music, food trucks and Untold's latest releases, along with wine, seltzer and non-alcoholic beverages. Half of each week's ticket sales will benefit Hingham Maritime Center's community programming.

How Untold Brewing and Hingham Maritime Center came together for a beer garden

"The Hingham Maritime Center has been an important part of local community boating for over 50 years," said Mike Dyer, who co-owns Untold with company founder Matt Elder.

Dyer, a Hingham resident, said he's taken part in adult boating instruction at the center. He knew when he got the phone call that it was a great idea.

"They wanted to find a way to help build awareness of their programs and were looking for a creative and fun fundraiser to accomplish that," he said.

The resulting once-a-month spring and summer series will help raise funds for the center's youth and adult boating programs while also bringing people to a scenic area with community water access that even longtime residents may not know about, Dyer said.

"We took the approach that everybody is really busy with an increasing number of things to do, so that's why we choose to hold it one Thursday a month," Dyer said. "The schedule is late afternoon into early evening, so people can take a break after work and watch the sunset, grab some food and listen to music with a cold one."

Untold, regularly hosts food trucks and live music at its Scituate and Plymouth locations. A taproom at the Derby Street Ships in Hingham closed this past February.

"Programming for the series was curated by Untold," Dyer said. "Our intent is to bring in some well-respected and fun partners to make each night a little bit different than the others."
