Apr. 27—BATESVILLE — The following information details special events and activities planned for the month of May at Batesville Memorial Public Library.

May 2 at 1 p.m. — Adult Felting Class — We are thrilled to announce the return of our esteemed instructor, Janet Paden, who will again guide us. We will continue to work adding detail to our bird. Don't worry if you missed April. You can work on a less detailed bird or a project of your own. Registration is required.

May 2 at 4 p.m. — Thursday Craft Day: Paper Bag Puppets — Join us as Junifon Tutoring leads a puppet making class using paper bags! This program is for kids in 1st to 6th grade and registration is required. ebatesville.com/events

May 6 at 10 or 11 a.m. — Mother Goose Toddler Time for ages 0-3. Miss Sarah will host a 30 minute session designed to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers. Registration is not required.

May 6 at 7 p.m. — Economics Plain and Simple Conclusion — This will be the last class for Economics Plain and Simple. Registration is not required.

May 7 at 10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. — There's no time like Storytime! Join us every Tuesday for a fun filled 45 minute session that incorporates books, songs, and activities to build early literacy skills. This program is geared towards children ages 3 to 6. Registration is not required.

May 7 at 4 p.m. — Story Seekers Book Club — Participants will discuss the book Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson and receive the next book for May, which is, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit. May 9 at 1 p.m. — Adult Craft Flower Pomanders — These flower pomanders offer versatile display options, whether suspended, nestled on a stand, featured in a centerpiece, or even grasped by a handle. Join us at BMPL in making one of your own. Registration is required.

May 9 at 4 p.m. — Kids Who Code: Sphero Coding — Join us for a fun hour of coding! This program is for children in 1st to 6th grade and registration is required. Registration is required.

May 9 at 5 p.m. — Nanny the Dog — Eli's Dog Club presents: Some Dog-gone FUN! Stop in to visit or read to Nanny the dog, paint a dog craft and play dog bingo! She will be in the Activity Lab in the Children's Area from 5 to 6. Registration is not required., just stop by!

May 13 at 4 p.m. — Little Sprouts Garden Club — Welcome to Little Sprouts Garden Club. This program is for ages 3 to 6 year olds. This club will meet once a month and talk about all things garden with your little ones. Join us each month as we go from starting seeds to picking our produce in our BMPL garden. This is a hands-on program for littles with crafts in between. Registration is required.

May 14 at 10, 2 and 6 p.m. — There's no time like Storytime! Join us every Tuesday for a fun filled 45 minute session that incorporates books, songs, and activities to build early literacy skills. This program is geared towards children ages 3 to 6. Registration is not required.

May 14 at 1 p.m. — A Light Up Bumble Bee — A BMPL Homeschool program. Participants will create a bumble bee or a bug that lights up. This is a great STEAM project. This free program is for grades 1st to 6th. Registration is required.

May 14 at 6 p.m. — Nature Photography — The talk will discuss photography of common but beautiful sights around us, literally in our backyards. We'll discuss approaches to composing photos, including varying perspectives and imaginative use of natural lighting. We'll discuss tips to improve the overall quality of your photos. The talk will be geared toward owners of any camera, but a portion will be directed toward those with interchangeable lenses. It will use photo examples to demonstrate the ideas discussed. Registration is not required.

May 15 BMPL closed for staff training.

May 16 at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m. — Thursday Littles Craft: Splat Painting — Join us to paint with fly swatters! This program is for ages 3 to 6. Registration is required.

May 16 at 5:30 p.m. — Adult Art Club — Southeast Indiana Creative Collective: a community for local artists to share, create, and explore together. Pottery, photography, painting, crafting, illustration, writing, music, fashion, theatre, sewing/quilting, embroidery, dance, printmaking, graphic design—there are no rules about what kind of creative person you have to be to join! Registration is not required.

May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Perennial Plant Swap. Are you ready to spruce up your garden without spending a dime? Join us for our upcoming perennial swap event! It's the perfect opportunity to exchange your extra plants, meet fellow gardening enthusiasts, and add some new greenery to your collection.

How It Works:

1. Bring Your Perennials: Gather any extra perennial plants you have from your garden. Don't worry if you're a newbie, everyone's welcome! you can drop these off at the library starting Thursday, May 16, during hours.

2. Swap and Share: On Saturday, May 18 (10 a.m. to noon), a table will be set up under the Pergola outside of the library. Set up your plants on our designated swap tables. Browse through the offerings and pick out new plants to take home.

3. Connect with fellow gardeners: Share your gardening tips, tricks, and stories with other plant lovers in our friendly community.

May 20 at 6:30 p.m. — Disney Sing-A-Long — Join us as Junifon Tutoring presents a Disney Sing Along Dance Party! Dress up! This program is for kids ages 3 to 6. Registration is required.

May 21 at 10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. — There's no time like Storytime! Join us every Tuesday for a fun filled 45 minute session that incorporates books, songs, and activities to build early literacy skills. This program is geared towards children ages 3 to 6. Registration is not required.

May 21 at 1:30 p.m. — A Novel Idea Book Club (Adult) — Join us each month to explore and discuss the month's book. Retired English teacher Steve Holland is our book guide. The May selection is The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Registration is not required.

May 21 at 6:30 p.m. — Aging Care Series: Effective Communication Strategies When Dealing with Dementia — Communication is more than just talking and listening — it's also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, and body language. As the disease progresses, individuals living with Alzheimer's or other dementias lose the ability to use words, but families can find new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer's, learn how to interpret the verbal and behavioral communication, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. May 22 at 1 p.m. — Remember When Storytime (Adults) — Join us for an afternoon of real-life narratives, where we share heartfelt and captivating experiences. Join us to connect, share, and embrace the beauty of real-life tales! Registration is not required.

May 22 at 5:30 p.m. — BMPL board meeting.

May 23 at 6 p.m. — Bridges of Hope — The purpose of Bridges of Hope is to educate faith communities about mental illness so that they can create stronger safety nets and welcoming communities of faith for people affected by mental illness. Three areas will be covered: What is mental illness? How does it impact individuals, families, and communities? What is the role of the faith community in helping people and families touched by serious mental illness? Who is NAMI and what does it offer to individuals, families and faith communities? Open to the community. Registration is not required.

May 27 — BMPL will be closed to observe Memorial Day.
