Which new Asheville restaurants, cafes, bars and breweries opened from Jan-March 2024?

ASHEVILLE - A host of newcomers entered Asheville’s restaurant, cafés, bar and brewery scene in 2024.

Food trucks evolved to include brick-and-mortar locations, new hotels debuted chic hangout spots, and chefs introduced original dining room experiences.

Also, days before the new year kicked off, La Cabana Mexican Grill opened at the site of the former Copper River Grill at 1302 Hendersonville Road, with a menu of Tex-Mex dishes and a full bar. Taqueria Muñoz opened a new Mexican restaurant at 400 Hendersonville Road, the former site of Huddle House in Biltmore Village.

Set off on a culinary quest through Asheville. Here are some food and beverage businesses that have opened from January to March 2024.:

Bridge and Tunnel Coffee

In January, Bridge and Tunnel Coffee expanded from a mobile coffee truck to a brick-and-mortar café at 10 Fernihurst Drive in the Coman Student Activity Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

Good Hot Fish

In January, Good Hot Fish opened at 10 Buxton Ave., inside Eulogy, a new music and event venue opened in the fall at Burial Beer Co.’s South Slope taproom. The modern fish camp-style restaurant is owned by James Beard Award-nominated and “Top Chef” Season 19 contestant Ashleigh Shanti.

Dolly Llama Waffle Master

In January, The Dolly Llama Waffle Master opened with a menu of handcrafted waffles and ice cream treats at 2 Town Square Blvd., Suite 130, Biltmore Park Town Square.

After/Glow

In January, After/Glow officially opened inside River Arts District’s new boutique hotel, The Radical, 95 Roberts St. The café and bar serve coffee by day and cocktails by night with down-tempo tunes and deejay sets to set the vibe. The Radical, which debuted last October, also operates the Golden Hour restaurant and bar and The Roof rooftop bar.

The Smokin’ Onion

In January, The Smokin’ Onion food truck expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant serving a full menu of plant-based meals for breakfast and lunch at 697 Haywood Road in West Asheville.

Asiana Market

In January, the family who owned Lee’s Asian Market and Asiana Grand Buffet flipped the former restaurant into an Asian supermarket called Asiana Market, selling imported goods, produce, meat, seafood and more. Asiana Market is open daily at 1968 Hendersonville Road.

Master BBQ

In February, Master BBQ, a Filipino barbecue food truck, set up for a permanent residency at Zillicoah Beer Co., on 870 Riverside Drive in Woodfin.

Trve Brewing

In March, Trve Brewing Company – pronounced “true” – opened at 255 Short Coxe Ave. in Asheville's South Slope brewing district. It’s the second taproom for the Denver-founded beer and metal-themed craft beer brewery.

Ivory Road

After closing for regular dining service last August, Ivory Road reopened as a chef-driven event space that hosts pop-ups at 1854 Brevard Road in Arden in March. View the events calendar at ivoryroadavl.com/events/.

Bee Thai Kitchen

In March, Bee Thai Kitchen opened 45 South French Broad Ave., Suite 190, the former site of Little Bee Thai – the businesses are not affiliated.

Soprana Rooftop Cucina

In March, Soprana Rooftop Cucina, a rooftop pizza restaurant, opened at Embassy Suites, 192 Haywood St. downtown. Also, E’Terie, the hotel’s bar and grill, is open on the lobby level.

Sky City Tavern

In March, Sky City Tavern, a full bar with bar bites, opened at 144 Biltmore Ave.

Gauchinho Brazilian Steakhouse

Gauchinho Brazilian Steakhouse, specializing in authentic Churrascaria-style dining, is now open at 5 Westgate Parkway, Suite 100 in West Asheville, in the former location of Cowboys Mexican Grill.
