Annual Dachshund Parade in Rochester Is a True Celebration of Cuteness

The 22nd annual Rochester, NY Dachshund Parade took place last Saturday and it looks like the best parade ever.

Dachshunds of every size, age and color participated and some were even in costume!

The adorable video was shared by the TikTok account for @rocthecitywithhope and everyone wishes they were at this parade. One person commented, "I can't with the cuteness!" Another added, "Literally the best day of the year hands down." Someone else responded, " We've been taking my kids for over 10 years, one of our favorite local events."

One of the sweetest aspect is that the senior Dachshunds were out in full force, and the video creator said that not only was a 18-year-old pup in the parade, but one that was 22-years-old as well! Senior dogs are absolutely the best and I always love to see them living their best life.

The flyer read "There will be songs and oompah music, a fashion show, dog and people treats, networking for dachshunds (sniffing, exploring, etc.) and their humans, followed by the parade at approximately 11:30 AM."

This basically sounds like the great parade ever with the cutest dogs ever, Mark your calendars for next year!

All of us know that Dachshunds are adorable, but did you know that they  were originally bred for the purpose of badger tracking in the 1500s? The Dachshund is a relatively small breed known for their short legs and elongated bodies. This "longer" appearance was deliberately created by breeders so that the dog could easily burrow inside badger holes.

Dachshunds are amazingly intelligent, loyal and love being affectionate with their owners. These little dogs usually live 12-14 years and few dogs within this breed exceed 33+ pounds or 10+ inches in height. Three coat varieties are available for this breed and include smooth, long-haired, or wire-haired. Each has their own specific grooming needs and are available in multiple colors. These include red, black and tan, chocolate and tan, or dapple.

The Dachshund is often described as a large dog “trapped” inside a smaller body. This is due to their big personality and sense of courageousness. They are generally described by dog experts as extremely clever, bold (to a fault), fearless, as well as lively. They are also affectionate and extremely entertaining, with a love for playtime when the occasion arises.

They are great for both kids and older people, and they do well in either houses or apartments.

If you are interested in adopting a Dachshund, check with your local animal shelter, Humane Society or breed specific rescue to see if a dog is waiting to find their forever home with you.
