Airline Snaps Surfboards Completely in Half (Clip)

It’s a nightmare scenario for any traveling surfer.

You’re going on a surf trip, your boardbags are all packed with as much padding as possible (towels, boardshorts, bikinis, flip flops, perhaps even bubble wrap), you handoff the boardbag to the baggage handler at the ticketing desk, whispering prayers of safe passage under your breath, and then, you bid the bag adieu, fingers crossed.

Upon arrival, however, the boards have been dinged, buckled, or worse while in transit. And this one below is perhaps the worst one we’ve ever seen. Absolute carnage.

The clip comes from Tessa Timmons, a stylish longboarder from California, who was apparently en route to Bali when the baggage handling catastrophe went down.

And here’s what she had to say about the situation:

@flyairasia @airasia_srilanka @flyairasia.id @airasiasuperapp what the actual f**** !!?!! This longboard has a thick stringer and is glassed so heavy im baffled how it broke in half with the shortboard too. It's hard enough paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars in board bag fees, only to have this happen....

“Anyone have experience dealing with COMPLETELY broken boards from airlines? I sadly didn't purchase insurance cause it was a short travel from somewhere nearby. I did file a claim at the airport though so hoping for the best. 🙏 if anyone has waited and paid for a @michaelsurfboards they know how sad this is... just got the board in the spring.

“In the meantime does anyone have a good log and a fish or twin fin they are selling in Bali or want to lend me for a few weeks?

“The universe is definitely teaching me a lesson in not holding onto possessions so tightly it seems.”

It's reminiscent of the time, recently, when a baggage handler was caught on camera dropping a boardbag to certain death from a second story flight of stairs.

Intentional carelessness? Sure looks like it.

Later, via Instagram stories, Timmons had an update saying:

@flyairasia Malaysia office is offering me $100 USD for over $3k USD worth of equipment.”

Brutal. Just brutal.
