AG worked closely with mill partners to develop the circular fabric. The pieces in the capsule are made up of 3,000 pieces of old AG jeans, which the brand said is equivalent of 4,100 lbs. that was recycled into 27,000 meters of new denim fabric.

The remaining 5 percent accounts for the metal zipper components where there are not yet effective ways of using recycled materials, the brand stated. However, the zipper tape is made from recycled water bottles.

The denim is dyed with Tejidos Royo’s Dry Indigo technology which adds further environmental benefits, eliminating water consumption from the dyeing process and reducing the amount of chemicals and energy used. The wash uses eco-friendly laser and ozone processes, along with water and energy efficient washing machines, and heat recycling dryers.

The six-piece collection includes men’s and women’s jeans and jackets. Highlights in the collection include the women’s Alix Jacket inspired by vintage workwear and the high-rise Naomi bootcut jean with a cropped length, and the men’s Everett slim straight jean, Tellis slim fit jean and Vann Jacket, a reimagined Trucker that has a relaxed fit and roomy sleeves.

The collection retails for $215-$265 and is available on AG’s website.

The collection is part of The Jean of Tomorrow, AG’s ongoing sustainability initiative that envisions a more responsible approach to denim design.

AG launched its first Jean of Tomorrow collection in 2021. The collection featured denim made with 100 percent biodegradable components that were sustainably sourced and ethically produced. A second collection in 2022 focused on natural dyes to eliminate the harmful petrochemicals and toxins typically found in synthetic dyes. The collection was made from traceable organic cotton and finished with plant-based trims.

The third collection in 2023 was AG’s first execution of jeans made with recycled AG denim. Those jeans were made with 60 percent recycled content and got its speckled character from the recycled content.

“Committed to fostering positive change, AG approaches its responsibility to our community through a comprehensive, multi-faceted strategy, continually striving to innovate and inspire in the realm of sustainable fashion,” the brand stated.
