Adidas Made a Box Shoe for April Fool’s Day
Adidas is tipping its hand early for its April Fool’s Day plans with the reveal of The Box Shoe.
A product page has been added to the Adidas Confirmed app for a shoe that is precisely what it sounds like, a box to put your feet in. The blue Adidas box is tipped upside down, lid to the earth, and features a cut-out with flap to form an opening and tongue. Thick laces are then stitched onto the remaining surface area above foot, completing what is obviously a joke.

Upon clicking on the product specifications, which makes sure you know to expect a “boxy fit,” you’ll see the product code is AF0104, as in “April Fool’s April 1.” There’s also a full product description reading: “Blurring the lines between product and packaging, these Adidas shoes are truly out of the box. The rectangular design takes cues from the original Adidas shoebox, creating the perfect silhouette for a [sic] experimental style. Styled with chunky laces, the sneakers are a statement piece that elevates every look.”
What still remains unclear is if Adidas will actually sell The Box Shoe as part of the joke. There’s an option to set a reminder for the shoe much like other releases on the Confirmed app, but the product page also says, “price upon request,” which could suggest the brand doesn’t actually intend to take any one’s money for this particular gag.
With days to spare before April Fool’s, there’s still time for more developments on The Box Shoe. This post will be updated should anything change.
