9th Annual World Music and Cuisine Festival at MSSU

JOPLIN, Mo. — You can call it a celebration that spanned the entire world, Saturday at Missouri Southern State University.

It’s the 9th Annual World Music and Cuisine Festival – which took place in the Robert Young Gymnasium on campus.

The event provides MSSU international students a chance to showcase various food and entertainment from their home country.

It also gives folks from here time to interact with students – learn more about their native country and show appreciation to them for calling Missouri home during their studies.

Event organizers estimate around 700 people attended this year – and are discussing finding a different venue to host next year’s event – due to its growing popularity in the community.

More on MSSU…

“What I have seen is that it has grown every single year. So, every year, we have more students involved, we have more food at the event, we have more performances – and we raise more support for our international club,” said Aaron Carmichael, MSSU Intensive English Program Dir.

All proceeds go toward supporting activities and trips that members of the International Club get to do. Admission was $15.

Carmichael says last week – members paid a visit to the Missouri State Capitol. Last fall – they went to Silver Dollar City in Branson.
