Boy, 8, with brain tumor raised thousands of dollars for police. What they did to return the favor will make you smile.

The first day of school is usually bittersweet, as students flood back through the doors either full of excitement or dread. But for 8-year-old Brecken Simmons, his first day back at James Lewis Elementary School was his best one yet, thanks to the Blue Springs Police Department who provided him with a VIP entrance.

In late July, Brecken made headlines for organizing a lemonade stand to raise funds for his local police officers. “They keep us safe, they do whatever they can to keep us safe from other things,”Brecken told news outlets. When his small act reaped a big reward of $3,494, the Missouri-based officers wanted to do something to return the favor.

“One kid with a lemonade stand has brought an entire community, an entire metro, and a lot of the entire country together to support the efforts police officers do,” Sgt. Jeff Sargent told KMBC.

Like many other third graders, Brecken spent Wednesday morning waiting for the bus that would take him to his first day of school. But when the D.A.R.E. Mustang arrived, members of the Blue Spring Police Department told the little boy to hop in for a sweet surprise.

“This feels so special,” Simmons said as the ABC affiliate captured a video of his unique ride to school. And it only got better when he was able to turn on the lights and sirens as the officer turned into the school’s carpool line.

However, the local officers have assured that they aren’t quite done supporting the little boy, who is also battling a stage two brain tumor.

On a YouTube channel of his own called “Brecken’s World,” the 8-year-old can be seen sharing his experiences — from organizing the lemonade stand, to even showing viewers what it’s like to go through a routine MRI.

There’s no doubt that the little boy now has supporters across the country.
