50 Yard Line Sports Bar and Grill opens in downtown Columbia. Here's what's on the menu

The name of a new downtown Columbia sports bar beckons patrons to what are traditionally known as the best seats in the house.

50 Yard Line Sports Bar and Grill recently opened at 807 E. Walnut St., in shouting distance of Columbia institutions such as The Blue Note and the Boone County Courthouse square.

A menu posted to the restaurant's Facebook page touts traditional sports bar fare with some delightful twists. Wings, for example, come breaded or naked, bone-in or boneless, in nine different sauces; options range from Buffalo to Carolina gold, hot honey to gochujang Korean pepper.

A variety of smash burgers, wraps and sandwiches lead the menu, with four salads available for those seeking lighter options.

Starters and entrees lean toward the Southern end of the culinary spectrum. Diners can kick off their meal with everything from fried green tomatoes to deep fried deviled eggs, creamy jalapeno grits to portabella mushroom fries.

And bigger plates include chicken and waffles, shrimp and jalapeno grits, and a cajun pasta dish arriving with a side of hush puppies. Recent specials posted to Facebook have included Taco Tuesday trios and a pulled pork sandwich topped with slaw and onion petals.

50 Yard Line is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the online menu. Learn more by looking them up on Facebook.
