5 Senior Illinois Shelter Cats Looking for Forever Homes Have Nothing but Love to Give

For those who have yet to be blessed by the cat distribution system, adopting from an animal shelter is the best way to meet a new feline friend. You can visit shelter cats with no commitment, and it's the perfect space to ask questions about cat ownership. Best of all, animal shelter volunteers can match you to the cat who's the best fit for you!

Age is one factor that many adopters consider when looking for a new pet. It can be rewarding to raise a kitten, and adopting a young cat gives you many years together to look forward to, but not as many people consider adopting senior cats. That's why the folks at TAPS Animal Shelter in Pekin, Illinois, are giving their older kitties a moment in the spotlight. You can meet them all in a precious April 19 TikTok video!

What sweet senior cats! These fur babies seem so happy to get a little love from their shelter friend, even if they're a little sleepy, too. Affectionate cats like these are sure to be adopted soon, but sometimes, a pet's age can cause an adopter to second-guess things. It's just not fair!

Tuxedo cat Green Bay looks as dapper as can be in his black and white coat, but the cutest thing about him was the way he leaned into the animal shelter volunteer's hand. Clearly, he was loving the attention! And so was Bonsai, who looked absolutely adorable with his fang-like overbite.

Gray cats Trinity and Lola were so gentle, but the way they nuzzled the volunteer's hand practically melted my heart. Just think of how much they would love being someone's pet! Whether cuddling up on the couch or climbing a cat tower like Trinity was doing, there's no question that these older cats would drop everything for some loving.

Last but not least is 14-year-old Miss Bella. She may be a senior cat, but she has such regal energy! It's heartwarming to see her get the attention she surely craves while in the kennel, even if she's not as sprightly as her younger pals.

Why Adopt Senior Cats?

Not every adopter is prepared for the increased needs of a senior cat, and that's OK. But when you're able, please consider opening your home to an older kitty. They are just as loving and personality-filled as any other cat, and they will be so grateful to have somewhere comfy to spend their golden years.

"Seniors are so loving!" agreed commenter @josephine..9. "If you are a homebody they are the perfect pet for you! I adopted my senior cat when he was 14 and he’s about to turn 17!" How sweet!

Older cats like these ladies and gentlemen from TAPS are at shelters across the country, waiting for their perfect home. Please think about paying them a visit!
