3 Easy Ways to Transition Your Culottes From Summer to Fall (& Winter!)
Did you finally figure out how to wear culottes this summer? From The Row to Tibi to Forever21, the cropped wide-leg pant was the season’s No. 1 silhouette. While they might have looked intimidating in May, there’s a solid chance you’d invested in your own pair by July, realizing the loose, fluid pant makes for an easy outfit in 90 degree heat. Now what?
With a few tricks, you can seamlessly transition culottes into your fall — and even winter — wardrobe. It was the first challenge we posed to our in-house stylist Chris Kim for our new video series, Three Ways. Twice a week, we’ll show you three new ways to wear something you already have in your closet. From a silk scarf to a slip dress, Chris will dare you to try something new and teach you how to make the most of what you already have.
The secret here? Layering. To start, Chris suggests sticking to one color palette — blue in this case — and pairing a classic blouse with high waisted culottes. Throw on a lightweight coat and, until the temp drops below 60, a strappy pair of sandals (then sub in a classic pair of Adidas Stan Smith sneakers; they go with everything). If it’s already starting to feel more winter than fall, try pulling on your favorite knee-high boots, regardless of the length of your pants. The surprising combination flatters the leg — and keeps you warm.
