24th annual Latino Food Festival to feature menudo cook-off and mariachi

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County residents will be cooking menudo and pozole this weekend for a cash prize at the Latino Food Festival at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

On May 26, the 24th annual Latino Food Festival Menudo & Pozole Cook-Off is headed to the Kern County Fairgrounds for a day of family fun. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the fairgrounds will be full of people enjoying music performances, various food vendors and the pozole/menudo cook-off competition.

Michael Salgado, The Zapp Band and Lighter Shade of Brown are set to perform at the festival.

La Sonora Dinamita and Ballet Folklorico Huaztecalli will also be performing at the event, and organizers say a booth decorating contest and kids camp will be available for children. You might want to keep the kids far away from the jalapeño eating contest, unless they can handle the heat.

Cooking contestants are still needed and if you would like to compete, call the KCHCC at 661-633-5495. Children ages five or younger will get into the event for free.
