The 2024 Canton Flea Market Arts and Crafts Show returns for one-day event held on Thursday, May 9. It also runs Oct. 10 this year.

The Canton Flea Marketis always held on the second Thursdays in May and October. The famous market attracts up to 1,000 artists and craftsmen from across the country to showcase handcrafted items such as pottery, jewelry, and unique arts and crafts on the beautiful grounds of the historic Madison County Courthouse. It all began in 1965 as an art show with local artists hanging their paintings on the iron fence surrounding the grounds of the Courthouse and was voted in the past as one of the top 20 events in the southeast from the Southeast Tourism Society.

"This is a fun annual tradition, we have people who come from all over the country either to shop or just be vendors," said Jenny Wadford, coordinator for Canton Flea Market committee in a phone interview with the Clarion Ledger.

"We've got vendors from California, Texas, Florida and all over the place and of course local Mississippi venders. Some women come to the flea market for a girls trip just to shop with their friends for the day, and around that time we have a lot of people who are doing Mother's Day shopping."

This year the public can expect a lot of hand-made items on the square booths and lots of artsy gifts for Mother's Day. People can also look forward to buying the Cajun pistols, which are a really good seafood pastry, organizers said.

Some of the vendors that will be featured this year will be people who create oil paintings, personalized home accessories and more.

"One vendor that's real popular this year are the personalized trucker hats," Wadford said. "People will be able to pick out the patches for their hat of all different colleges and local high schools."

There will also be food trucks will be available throughout the market for purchases of different items and beverages.
