Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01
This classic matte liquid lipstick has yet to fail me! It’s blue-based red hue makes it brown-girl friendly it’s literally one of the most flattering shades for caramel to truffle-colored complexions. Plus, the doe-foot applicator and creamy texture allows it to glide onto lips effortlessly and outline your mouth like a professional. ($14, sephora.com)

Flirt Cosmetics Muva Mouth Matte Liquid Lipstick in Rosebud
Ever since I saw the Instagram video of Amber Rose showering her son, Sebastian, with kisses to prove this lipstick doesn’t budge, I had to have it. Even though this shade looks rich in the tube, it appears more red-orange on my dark skin tone, and it stays put. ($18, flirtcosmetics.com)

NARS Velvet Lip Glide in La Main Bleue
Clearly, I’m obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks, but I keep at least three to four tubes of this gloss-meets-lipstick by NARS in each handbag. Why? The color payoff is out of this world, and the oil formulation makes it really comfortable to wear. ($26, narscosmetics.com)

Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Gloss
I’m obsessed with lip gloss and have a plethora of brands and colors in my makeup bag, but my favorite is by Chanel. I’ve been a fan of Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer lip glosses for years, so I was a little worried (okay, not too worried it is only lip gloss, after all) when the brand discontinued the entire line earlier in 2017 and replaced it with Rouge Coco Gloss. But the new formula is even better than before, in my humble opinion. It’s non-sticky — a rarity in lip gloss — and contains hydrating coconut oil and vitamin E so your lips don’t dry out. The felt applicator is also wider, making it easier to apply the high-shine gloss in a single smooth swipe. And I was able to find the equivalent colors of my two favorites: 716 Caramel (a pinky nude) and 764 Confusion (a mauve). #winning ($30, chanel.com)

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm
I’m a bit of a lip balm freak, leaving them on my desk and nightstand at all times as well as in every purse because I can’t stand having a parched pucker. But finding a lip balm that actually moisturizes for longer than a few minutes is a tall order. However, Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm delivers. It promises eight hours of moisturizing, and while I can’t imagine it sticking around for that long, the shea-butter-infused balm is surprisingly long-lasting and definitely hydrating. I also love the hibiscus color, which imparts a hint of rose. ($5, burtsbees.com)

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color
I’ve always been much more of a lip gloss gal than a lipstick person, but when the night calls for it, I reach for my go-to lipstick: Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color in Tawny Pink. Despite the name, it’s more like a soft mauve that is universally flattering, giving my lips the perfect pop of long-lasting color. Even though it’s matte, the lipstick contains emollients, which keep things smooth and creamy. ($29, bobbibrowncosmetics.com)

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso
I have tried a lot of different reds, and it is usually a toss-up whether or not the shade is flattering against my brown skin. But it was love at first swipe when I tried this one on. It almost felt as if Stila made this shade specifically for me. While I’m sure that’s not true, this red is highly pigmented and stays in place for hours. ($22, stilacosmetics.com)

Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick in Nudie Patootie
I can always count on this budge-proof nude to be the perfect addition on days when I’m going for a soft makeup look. It pairs well with with a brown lip liner too, if you want to add a bit of dimension to your lips. ($4.99, wetnwildbeauty.com)

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Velvet Teddy
On days when I’m looking to rock a sexy Jennifer Lopez-like beige lippie, this pick is essential. It glides across the lips, leaving behind a hint of sheen — and never makes my lips look chalky, like similar shades I have tried in the past. ($17, maccosmetics.com).

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Morning After, Sheer
I discovered this sheer, pinky nude early last summer when our beauty director, Dana Oliver, set up a shoot for editors to find their perfect nude lipstick shades — and so began my lipstick addiction. I feel naked without this nude. ($17, urbandecay.com)

Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip in Hot Tangerine
Ever since this liquid crayon appeared on my desk, I’ve been obsessed. I love red lipstick, but in the summer, it can sometimes feel a bit formal. This red-orange shade gets me constant compliments and is matte without feeling heavy or drying. ($28, bobbibrowncosmetics.com)

Dior Addict Lacquer Stick in Underground
This lipstick has lived in my purse all summer. Its dusty rose color and high-shine finish is super-hydrating. Paired with a bare face and dewy skin, it feels casual but brightens up my look when I’m running out the door. ($35, dior.com)

MAC Cosmetics Glaze Lipstick in Hue
Not only is this soft, pale pink my personal go-to nude, but it’s always stolen from my handbag by my friends. It’s the perfect nudey-pink to wear from day to night, and has the perfect amount of sheen. Throwing a light gloss over top doesn’t hurt with this tried-and-true lip color, but it definitely does fine on its own. ($17, maccosmetics.com)

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose
This lipstick is a more recent obsession, but hasn’t left my makeup bag since I first used it. If you’re nervous about trying a more vibrant pink lip, this would be a good place to start. It packs a lot of punch without being too much. I’ve been loving it for summer when I’m in a rush but want to rock some color on my lips. And the formula is amazing and moisturizing. ($8.49, ulta.com)

By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick in N-14 Orange Vogue
This orangey-red shade is the color that broke the ice for me the bright summer lip ice that is. It’s the perfect shade of summer red for my skin tone, and has gotten me compliments every time I’ve worn it. It applies beautifully and doesn’t need much reapplying. If I’m heading out the door feeling super bland, this is my go-to lip for adding a pop. ($34.31, byterry.com)
