As a fashion editor, I spend a good deal of my life trying to track down the best of the best clothing, shoes and accessories for people to add to their wardrobes. This means putting viral TikTok finds to the test, scoping out those ever-lasting styles that repeatedly sell out and reading thousands upon thousands of online reviews to try to glean what’s really worth buying. But perhaps my favorite test for whether or not an item has earned the title of “best” is when I find someone (or multiple someones) who loves an item so much, they bought it twice…or sometimes even thrice. So I asked PureWow editors to share the clothing they adore enough to own in multiples, whether that means stocking up on one in every color or buying another every time the old one starts to look a little too worn. Here, 14 items our team would happily add to their shopping carts over and over and over again.

I Asked 3 Parisian Women About the Must-Haves Every French Woman Has in Her Closet

1. Old Navy High-Waisted PowerSoft Leggings

Old Navy

Operations Director of Branded Content Rachel Gulmi and I are both head-over-heels in love with Old Navy’s PowerSoft leggings, and the bike shorts ($27) too. “I literally have five pairs of each in black,” admits Gulmi. The truly live up to the name, offering support and compression while simultaneously feeling oh-so soft to the touch. But they aren’t just for lounging around—I’ve found these beauties hold up spectacularly well through regular sweaty runs and rubbing thighs without developing holes or thinning out. And they’re so lightweight, I completely forget I have them on, which is the gold standard when it comes to workout gear. We also both appreciate that Old Navy offers multiple inseam lengths, so both she (standing 5’1”) and I (just over 5’9”) can find our ideal fit, no compromising necessary. Oh, and did I mention they have pockets, too?

2. Agolde Harper Mid-Rise Straight Jeans

Revolve

PureWow readers are fairly obsessed with Agolde denim, but so are PureWow editors, including Associate Editor Sydney Meister, who owns these timeless jeans in multiple washes, they’re just that good. “I loved my classic blue-wash pair so much that I went back to get them in black,” she tells me. “If I’m not wearing one pair, I’m wearing the other—they’re literally the perfect fit (especially if you have a short torso). They hit my hips at the perfect height and they’re easy to pair with boots, sneakers, pumps—you name it.” Indeed, the mid rise is super flattering on just about any body type, and the 32-inch inseam is great for those with longer legs. Plus, they come in just about every shade of a blue a gal could hope for, as well as black and off-white.

3. J.Crew Vintage Jersey Classic-Fit Crewneck T-Shirt

J.Crew

Senior Editor Dana Dickey knows the power of a perfect T-shirt, which is why she keeps this J.Crew classic on rotation in her wardrobe all year round. “Navy, white and gray…can’t live without these colors rolled in my T-shirt drawer. The weight of the shirts is great for layering under sweaters in winter—lightweight and breathable—but also for wearing with shorts in summer. And the fit isn’t so skinny that it’s going to feel restrictive.” The best-selling style is also made with 100 percent cotton, so it will wear beautifully over time and is more eco-friendly than synthetic blends. Just be sure to wash and dry with low heat setting to avoid unwanted shrinkage.

4. Abercrombie & Fitch Essential Baby Tee

Abercrombie & Fitch

For those who prefer a slimmer, ‘90s-era fit, Associate Fashion Commerce Editor Stephanie Meraz has you covered. “I live in baby tees because they honestly look good with everything—under blazers, with vintage leather jackets, you name it! So buying this A&F style was a total no brainer for me,” she admits. “And after realizing how gentle it felt on my body, I literally purchased it two more times. I’ve owned my white, gray and black tees for about a year now and wear them every week. They’ve held up so well, minus a pit stains on the white version but c’est la vie!” Other reviewers note that despite the “baby tee” name, these fit true to size and aren’t so short as to feel like a crop top. “Most perfect tee I own,” reads one review. “Stretchy and comfortable without compromising quality. Thick and durable, soft and not cropped!” P.S. You can also buy these cuties in a three-pack for $70, saving you $5.

5. Salt Water Sandal by Hoy Shoes

Zappos

Once you find a good pair of summer sandals—ones that don’t cause blisters, don’t slip off your feet and that can be dressed up or down to fit any occasion—it’s a smart idea to snap up multiple pairs so you always have one on rotation. And that’s exactly what Editor in Chief Jillian Quint does with these cute, retro-inspired shoes. “Salt Water Sandals are the best summer shoes on the planet,” she raves. “They are so comfortable, waterproof and can be dressed up or down. And really inexpensive! I buy a new pair, or two, every other summer, knowing they will always be a hit.” These cute sandals also come in a wide range of fun colors, and the wide leather straps are comfortable enough for a full day of city exploration. They also come in kids sizes for an adorable mommy and me moment. Oh, and did I mention they’re also recyclable? Talk about a must-have.

6. Reformation Will Oversize Shirt

Reformation

The ideal button-up shirt should be just a little oversize, but not so much that you can’t still tuck it in; made of a material that won’t feel overly structured nor too flowy; and easy to wash without weekly trips to the dry cleaners. According to Assistant Commerce Editor Natalie LaBarbera, this Reformation number checks all those boxes, and more. “This is a go-to of mine that I have in classic white and a fun hot pink hue. It has a nice oversize fit so I can wear it on its own or layered, and I even use it as a super lightweight jacket sometimes! It’s super soft and breathable, too, since it’s made from organic cotton with a hint of spandex.” It comes in a range of solid hues, plus a few striped options, and while it is designed for a slightly oversize fit, reviewers say you can go down one size from your usual for a slimmer cut that’s still just as flattering.

7. Nike Pegasus Trail 4 Sneakers

Nike

Nike devotees and avid trail runners alike will understand Dickey’s obsession with the Pegasus Trail 4 sneakers. “I have two pairs and I’m looking for a new colorway to add to the bunch.” As she says, “Hiking is a big deal in L.A.!” And while they’re designed to give you ample grip and ankle support while out in the wilderness, they look pretty darn stylish too. “The gripping tread, the lateral side support and the extra layer of material over the toes makes these a joy to wear, just so comfortable—the other night I danced for three hours at a Springsteen show in these with no foot ache at all, and I’m wearing the same pair for a 10K this coming weekend.”

8. P448 Thea Sneakers

Nordstrom

“A little on the expensive side for sneakers, but I've been wearing the same pair for two years and they have held up so nicely,” says Olivia Dubyak, commerce editor. “I bought a second pair recently in anticipation of my old ones eventually wearing out. I just love the durability and the sleek, timeless style. The perforated logo on the side is unique and gives a classic white sneaker a bit more personality. I will say these are very flat, so if you have high arches you'll need to grab a good insert.” Other reviewers note how well these leather kicks hold up with frequent use, with many mentioning how easy they are to keep clean—just wipe them down with a damp paper towel on a regular basis and they should be looking good as new for a long time.

9. ALO Wellness Sports Bra

ALO

“I've had this ALO sports bra in a purple color for years and just scooped up the black because it's one of the comfiest ones to wear while still feeling supportive during workouts,” raves LaBarbera. She particularly loves the simple silhouette—no zippers or clips, a high back, wide shoulder straps—which offers plenty of support without over-complicating things. It also comes with removable cups for those who want a little extra coverage in the bust. Reviewers suggest this bra does fit true to size, however the straps are not adjustable, so keep that in mind when adding to your shopping cart.

10. Goldie Ribbed Long-Sleeve Tee

Goldie

Meister also swears by these ribbed long-sleeve tees for three seasons out of the year. “I think I have one in every color. I’ll dress it down for weekends or up to go out with friends, and it’s so good for layering. The blend of modal and spandex is breathable and luxe to the touch, and it has a stretchy fit that feels like a second skin.” These cozy tees come in five chic neutrals, including classic black and white, and the ribbing is subtle enough to add some depth without being too in your face. And while they may feel like a splurge, if you buy three or more you can save 20 percent.

11. Margaux the Demi Flats

Margaux

It’s no secret within the PureWow team that Associate SEO Editor Marissa Wu is obsessed with Margaux shoes, but it’s the classic Demi flat that first stole her heart. ““This shoe logs literal miles without a word of protest from my feet. Plus, it comes in a wide width for those needing a little extra space.” The designers at Margaux know many ballet flats fall short when it comes to support, so put extra emphasis on crafting a cushy, supportive footbed with ample room in the toe box so you never feel squished. And with 12 chic colors to choose from, it’s no surprise that Wu couldn’t limit herself to just one pair. “They are absolutely worth the splurge, in my opinion,” she says, “and last really well so you won’t need to replace them after just a few months.”

12.  Sam Edelman Bay Sandals

Nordstrom

I am not precious with my footwear—it’s hard to be if you live in NYC—and demand a lot from my shoes, but these simple Sam Edelman sandals always live up to the challenge. They require little to no break-in period, go with anything and everything in my wardrobe and last so long. I had one gold pair for about four years before I had to replace them, despite the fact that I wore them multiple times a week each summer! I will admit, they don’t have a ton of arch support, so if you have difficult feet I’d suggest going with a pair from Vionic or Sorel instead. But for a casual, easy sandal you can depend on day in and day out, it doesn’t get better than these, folks.

13. Rhode Lulani Dress

Revolve

No, this dress does not come cheap, but I have come to think of it as the ultimate wedding guest dress, which is what I’ve used to help justify owning two of them…while eyeing a third. (I also bought both second hand, which definitely helped, budget-wise.) The silhouette is incredibly flattering and allows me to wear a regular ‘ol T-shirt bra and boring underwear underneath, which I always prefer over a strapless bra and shapewear, especially for dancing, eating and sipping on Champagne. I’ve also worn these layered under a sweater for a more casual slip-skirt look to get even more use out of them. The material is lightweight and breathable, but does not have much stretch and I find the dress overall fits quite small, so I highly recommend going up one, if not two, from your usual size. Because Rhode is constantly coming out with new patterns and colors, you can often find older versions for less on secondhand sites like Vestiaire Collective, Depop or ThredUp.

14. Abercrombie & Fitch Men’s ‘90s Straight Jeans

Abercrombie & Fitch

Assistant Editor Delia Curtis loves shopping across both the women’s and men’s departments, which is how they stumbled upon these classic jeans they now own in multiple washes. “These are some of the most-worn pairs of pants in my closet. They’ve got a nice amount of stretch for a sturdy denim and the straight leg keeps things feeling comfortable and roomy. I like that I can pair them with nearly anything in my wardrobe and dress them up or down. And it doesn’t hurt that they come in a number of different colors, waist sizes and inseam lengths. I’ve got my eye out for new colorways and am sure to be purchasing more in the future.” And because men’s sizing is listed in inches, you can feel pretty confident ordering sizes online.
