Use a Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner

Dryness is one of the key culprits of frizzy hair, so make the switch to a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to help get to the bottom of the issue. “You always want to use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner or one that is focused on frizz control,”  advises stylist Jenny Strebe, founder of AIIR Professional. Try Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate.Me Wash ($36, Kevin Murphy) and Rinse ($36, Kevin Murphy) set.

Deep Condition Weekly

Similarly, make sure you’re giving your strands some extra moisture-boosting attention via a deep conditioner, Strebe says. She recommends applying a mask for extra hydration as needed, but no more than once per week. We love Frizz + Co’s the Repairing Hair Mask ($45, Frizz + Co) and It's A 10 Haircare Miracle Hair Mask  ($24.45, Amazon).

Try a Hair Sealing Treatment

To help combat frizz for a longer period of time—and to promote super shiny, glossy hair—reach for a hair sealing treatment. These create a seal of your strands that lasts for several washes. Check out OUAI Hair Gloss In-Shower Shine Treatment ($34, Sephora) or Drybar Liquid Glass Miracle Smoothing Sealant ($34, Sephora).

Avoid Ultra-Hot Showers

You may already know that super hot water is a no-no for your skin, but did you know it can impact your hair health, too? Celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita says this is a recipe for frizz. It can strip your hair of existing moisture and make it more prone to puffing up at the mere whisper of the word “humidity.”

Don’t Rough-Towel Dry

Similarly, Pita says to be super gentle when drying your hair post-shower. We have a tendency to rub our hair in between a towel to try to absorb excess moisture, but this can rough up the cuticle and cause damage, resulting in more frizz. Strebe agrees, noting that you should use a microfiber towel to gently press out water, and to use a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush to further protect your strands.

Try a Cold Rinse

“While it is not for everyone, a cold rinse to finish your hair washing can help to seal your hair cuticle and help control your frizz, too,” Pita says. “There’s also other great benefits from a cold rinse, but your hair will definitely see a difference!”

Reach for Curl-Enhancing Products

If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, try not to fight against your texture. Instead, work with it by incorporating hair care products formulated specifically for your hair type. Some good options include V&Co. Beauty Curly Hair + Peptide Shampoo ($6.39, Target) and Conditioner ($6.39, Target), as well as the Maui Moisture Nourish & Moisture + Coconut Milk Shampoo + Conditioner Set ($17, Amazon).

Use a Heat Protectant

“Always use a heat protectant when styling with your favorite hot tools,” says celebrity hairstylist Laurie Heaps. On that note, she advises using less heat styling in general.  “You do not want to cause any more damage to your hair if you are using dryers, irons, and curlers every day. Heatless styling methods will give your hair a break.”

Some good picks include the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant ($30, Sephora) and Not Your Mother's All Eyes on Me 10-in-1 Heat Protectant and Detangler Hair Perfector ($3.49, Target).

Apply a Leave-In Conditioner

Another way to get rid of frizz is to apply a leave-in conditioner on damp or wet hair. This further moisturizes and hydrates, cutting back on flyaways. “I would use Smoothing Cream by AIIR Professional ($32, AIIR Professional) as it is infused with blue agave and babassu oil. The cream moisturizes and will protect the hair from further damage,” she says. We also like Monday Haircare Moisture Leave-In Conditioner ($5.99, Ulta).

Smooth Frizz in the Moment

Trying to deal with frizz in the moment? Heaps swears by this tip: “Spray a boar bristle hair brush with a shine spray, running it through your hair. This will smooth down frizzies without making your hair look too greasy,” she says. “You can also lightly spray a fine-tooth comb with a flexible hold hairspray. This is a great way to smooth down frizzies at your middle or side part.”

Sleep on a Silk or Satin Pillowcase

Strebe recommends using a silk pillowcase in bed in order to reduce friction on your hair. It may sound far-fetched but it actually works, and your skin can reap the benefits, too! Try Kitsch’s Satin Pillowcase ($19, Kitsch) or Slip Pure Silk Queen Pillowcase ($89, Ulta).
