The 100th annual Apple Blossom Parade cruises down Frederick Avenue

May 4—The 100th annual Apple Blossom Parade makes its way through downtown St. Joseph.

Created in 1924 by James E. Hunt, the Apple Blossom Parade symbolizes the annual mark of spring, coming together as a community and the celebration of life.

This year's parade was festive, fun and nothing short of fabulous.

With huge parade floats cruising down Frederick Avenue, this parade was great for family, friends and people of all ages. People were dancing, doing backflips and more in excitement.

Attendee, Shannon King, says she's back in St. Joseph after being away at college and it's nice to see the community together.

"[To see] how big our community is and just how much people value it," said King.

"I like the environment. I mean, it's a little chaotic, but at the same time, it's really fun."

For King, the most memorable float was Darcy's Dance School since she knew a few people with the group and their float was big and fun. She even liked how one flower shop passed out coupons for free delivery considering the proximity to Mother's Day.

Her favorite part was seeing all the kids have a great time.

"It's fun to see the little kids right after the candy, even though it's been in the pools of water," said King.

Attendees, Manny and Diego, said their favorite part was getting candy.

"I got Starbursts, Reese's Pieces. I got a Twix and some gum," Manny said.

"I got a Jolly Rancher," said. Diego.

Diego says if he could make an Apple Blossom Parade float, he would make it look like a root beer float. Both Manny and Diego got to see their favorite red and blue Corvette's as well.

"It was really fun," said Diego when asked about his parade experience.

King says she would definitely recommend the Apple Blossom Parade to everyone.

"It's a great time to get some outside air, have fun, and see a bunch of people."
