1,000+ handbags collected through 17th annual Handbags for Hope campaign

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than 1,000 handbags were collected as part of the 17th annual Handbags for Hope campaign, a yearly initiative aimed at helping survivors of power-based abuse.

The campaign is held by Zinda Law Group, per a Thursday release. This year’s campaign collaborated with 51 partners in the Dallas, Houston and Austin areas.

The 1,000-plus bags collected will go to 26 partner agencies to provide survivors with both a handbag as well legal and social resources, courtesy the Texas Advocacy Project.

All bags include a subtle tag listing TAP’s legal line (800-374-HOPE), safety planning details and more information on TAP’s work, per the release.

Since its launch 17 years ago, the campaign has helped collect 49,000 bags. TAP’s work centers on aiding survivors and mitigating dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking and human trafficking statewide.

More details on Handbags for Hope as well as TAP’s work are available online.
