The 2-Minute Yoga Sequence Athletes Should Do on Recovery Days

If you’re an athlete, you know that rest and recovery days are just as important in a training schedule as the days you’re going hard. But that doesn’t mean you have to be completely stationary on your time off.

“Yoga aids in muscle recovery, if done properly, by restoring balance to the body, calming the mind, and helping circulation of blood to areas of the body that may be stiff or sore,” yoga expert Kent Katich tells Yahoo Health.

Yoga can be a great complement to the training process by helping muscles recover faster and by preventing stiffness that is inherent in breaking muscle down during training, he adds. Bonus: The added flexibility and mobility you’ll get from yoga will help you up your game, too.

Watch the video above as Katich leads MLS All-Star and US Men’s Soccer team member Jermaine Jones through a yoga sequence to open up the hips, part of Gaiam’s new “Yoga for Conditioning with Jermaine Jones” DVD (available at gameonyoga.com).
