A 2-Minute Yoga Sequence To Improve Your Shoulder Flexibility

We don’t appreciate our shoulders enough. Because the shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body, it offers us a variety of movements — and when there’s a lack of mobility from inactivity or injuries, the neck and lower back will compensate, says yoga expert Kent Katich.

“As athletes, it is important to have mobility in the shoulders to optimize performance, but crucial to have stability,” Katich tells Yahoo Health.

That’s where yoga can be useful.

“A mindful yoga practice can strengthen all the muscles that support the shoulder joint and also make us aware of how to properly move/work to prevent future injuries,” he says.

Watch the video above as Katich leads MLB All-Star Giancarlo Stanton through a yoga sequence to improve shoulder mobility and core stability, part of Gaiam’s new “Yoga for Power with Giancarlo Stanton” DVD (available at gameonyoga.com).
