A Brain-Boosting Smoothie to Combat "the Mondays"
We’re sharing a smoothie recipe every day this week. Why? Because it’s January, that first month of the new year when we’re all a little more health-conscious. And because Cindy Palusamy, founder of London juice bar The Juicery, has published a cookbook of over 150 drinkable jolts of wellness (Rizzoli). Called Juice Blend Taste, it features recipes for fruit and vegetable juices, booster shots, smoothies, soups, nut milks, herbal sodas, and teas, culled from over 50 of the world’s top nutrition experts. So sip away!

We could all use a little help with our memory, especially as we age. Why not get help in the form of a delicious, milky green smoothie? Chia seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which support memory function. Bonus: The calcium and magnesium in the greens here strengthen bones and fight menopausal symptoms.
½ cup (50g) tightly packed spinach
½ cup (50g) tightly packed watercress
1 ½ cups (350 ml) almond or cashew nut milk
4 to 5 sprigs parsley
1 teaspoon maca powder
1 teaspoon chia seeds
Juice the spinach and watercress. Transfer to a blender, add the remaining ingredients, and blend until smooth. (Alternatively, skip the juicing and blend the spinach and watercress along with the rest of the ingredients.) Serve immediately, blended with ice, poured over ice cubes, or at room temperature with no ice.
