Each week on “Whatcha Packin’,” Michelle Visage interviews the recently eliminated queen, but for the three finalists of season 16 she’s sitting down to chat ahead of the April 19 “Grand Finale.” Plane Jane talks padding, confidence and family support as moments that propelled her to the end of the competition. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.

In her interview with Michelle, Jane reveals the birth of her drag career as coming from a “downward spiral” she was in following her grandma’s death and how she turned her obsession with “Drag Race” in to a goal and a way of coming out of a negative trajectory. She said she started with makeup and practiced using Raven as a guide in her room “for a year” before she “got the courage” to go out in public in drag. She adds that she hid drag from her family at first, but ultimately it became impossible to hide around the house. She gives credit to the show itself for giving her “access to do drag” coming from a home of scientists and first generation Russian-Americans.
