'West Wing' Star Allison Janney Auditioned for Miranda on 'Sex and the City'

On Thursday’s Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, America’s Cool Mom (and Greatest Press Secretary Ever) Allison Janney revealed she was once considered for HBO’s most fabulous foursome.

Allison Janney’s not the first to spill the beans on almost landing Miranda. Comedian Sandra Bernhard revealed on The Howard Stern Show that she flat-out rejected the job, saying she was offered a lowly weekly salary and calling the original script “terrible.” She even took a shot at Carrie herself, saying, “I’m gonna play third or fourth fiddle to Sarah Jessica Parker and put up with her s***?”

Yikes! There’s no love lost there, clearly. But series creator Darren Star probably had his eye on both Janney and Bernhard in part because of something superficial they had in common, which was in contrast to Parker:

“For me, it was important that the hair color, body types and everything was different,” Star told MTV News. “When Cynthia Nixon came in to read for the first time, she was blond. I saw Miranda as a redhead. Thankfully, I took that leap of faith that she would look good as a redhead.”
