Griffin dropped by a local news program on KTLA and told the panel of anchors, “I still do not have one single day of paid work ahead of me for the rest of my life. Now you tell me that’s not because I’m a 58-year-old female in comedy.” The declaration was challenged by one of the male anchors, who Griffin quickly shut down by saying, “You should know your stats.” Griffin posted the clip of the incident on Twitter with the caption, “Every once in a while, Momma has to get a little savage.”

Williams also took issue with the controversial comedian’s view on her recent career woes. The host cited a much-publicized incident that pitted Griffin against President Donald Trump in 2017 as the reason she’s having trouble finding work. Griffin posed for a series of photos where she held a bloodied, decapitated head resembling the president. The uproar led to cancellations of future tour dates and a teary apology from the comedian.
“What I think Kathy is not reckoning in her own mind is — and Kathy, I told you this behind the scenes and maybe in front of the scenes — you went too far with the bloody Trump head. You went too far with that,” said Williams.
Williams conceded that Hollywood does seem to write off women after a certain age, saying, “I get what she means.” She added, “We women seem to have an expiration date, particularly depending on the career that you have.” Williams also offered Griffin words of encouragement, telling her to “keep going, girl,” but added, “But you’ve got to take some blame for the things that have happened to you. I’m sorry, Kathy. That’s the way I feel.”
But some viewers on Twitter disagreed with Williams and placed the blame not on Griffin’s actions but on Trump’s:
Stop saying @kathygriffin went too far. You're beating a dead horse.
What happened to her after the mask and ketchup pic is and was the bigger story. Stay in your lane and have several seats.....

Others heard Williams loud and clear and said the talk show host hit the nail on the head:
@WendyWilliams Hey watching the show & you're talkin about Kathy Griffin; you nailed it girl!
Comedians do get away with a lot: but when we cross the line, we crossed the line....and there are stiff consequences.
I look forward to being on your show when my comedy takes off 😎

@CNN @ABC @NYTIMES @WASHINGTONPOST @MSNBC @CBSNEWS @FOXNEWS @AP @BBCWorld @Reuters @kathygriffin @WendyWilliams Kathy Griffin Wendy is correct. You took your Trump joke just a little to far. It seems to be advocating violence, which surpasses our 1st Ammendment Rights.
