U2's Adam Clayton and Wife Mariana 'Have Amicably Divorced' After More Than 10 Years of Marriage

The bassist and his ex-wife will remain "fully involved in the care of their daughter" Alba, who was born in 2017

Adam Clayton of U2 and Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho are calling it quits.

Following over a decade since tying the knot in September 2013, the bass player and the Brazilian lawyer (who share daughter Alba, 6½) announced they've gotten a divorce, PEOPLE can confirm.

"After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced," a spokesperson for U2 tells PEOPLE.

"Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected," adds the statement.

The "Vertigo" band member, 64, got married to Mariana, 45, in September 2013, with BBC News reporting at the time that Clayton proposed Carnival in Brazil earlier that year, which marked their fourth as a couple.

In July 2017, the pair announced Alba's birth through a personal advertisement in the Irish Times. "Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba," they wrote in the newspaper.

Alba marked Clayton's second child, as he has a son, born in 2010, from a previous relationship.

The U2 member opened up about his and Mariana's relationship in a speech while accepting the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award at the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit in 2017.

"I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful. We started dating. I got married in sobriety to Mariana. I didn’t think that would happen. She’s never seen me drinking, but she does know me crazy," said Clayton at the time, per the Daily Mail.

"Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together and for making every day more meaningful," he added at the event.

In March, U2 wrapped its U2:UV Achtung Baby Live residency at Sphere in Las Vegas after 40 shows.
