There’s a new role on the docket for Jane the Virgin alum Yael Grobglas.

The actress will recur in the upcoming Matlock series from creator Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin, Charmed reboot) our sister site Deadline reports. She will portray Shae Banfield, aka “the Meerkat,” an insightful jury consultant with a mastery of body language, facial expressions and neurolinguistics which enables her to sniff out the truth. Her skills make her a worthy adversary to senior attorney Olympia Lawrence (played by Skye P. Marshall) and an imminent threat to Kathy Bates’ Madeleine “Matty” Matlock.

Inspired by the classic show starring TV icon Andy Griffith, the series follows brilliant septuagenarian Madeline Matlock who, after achieving success in her younger years, rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm. Assigned to Olympia, she uses her “unassuming demeanor” and “wily tactics” to win cases.

Additional cast includes Beau Bridges as the head of the firm and Jason Ritter as Olympia’s ex-husband Julian, the son of Bridges’ character who is intrigued by Matty’s clever skills.
