The bestselling cozy mystery book The Thursday Murder Club is coming to the big screen!
Richard Osman's novel follows a group of four friends at a retirement village who discuss unsolved murders—and then find themselves solving live cases. Here's what we know so far about the Thursday Murder Club movie.
It's adapted from Richard Osman's book of the same name.
In the first Thursday Murder Club novel (there are currently four in the series), four septuagenarians—Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Ron, and Joyce—meet up on (as the title suggests) Thursdays to discuss unsolved crimes. When a local developer is found dead nearby, however, the Club finds themselves investigating the murder in their own neighborhood. As the publisher writes, "As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it's too late?"
Three out of four of the main characters have been cast.
"The cast for #TheThursdayMurderClub movie is insanely great, I think people are going to love it," Osman posted before the casting announcement was made. Here's who's who in the cast so far:
Helen Mirren will play Elizabeth, a former spy
Ben Kingsley will play Ibrahim, a former pyschiatrist
Pierce Brosnan will play Ron, a former union activist
They are still in negotiations for who will play the fourth member of the group, Joyce.
Chris Columbus will write and direct Thursday Murder Club.
Columbus, who famously directed Home Alone and Home Alone 2, along with the first two Harry Potter films (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), will adapt Osman's novel for the big screen.
No premiere date has been set.
The movie will film in the UK from June through September 2024, but no premiere date has been announced as of yet. We'll update this as soon as we learn more. While we wait for the film, read the entire Thursday Murder Club series:
