Sydney Sweeney Had Perfect Response to Producer Who Said She's 'Not Pretty' and 'Can't Act'

Sydney Sweeney hit back after film producer Carol Baum disparaged the actress' skills and looks during a recent film screening, and she didn't mince words.

As The Daily Mail first reported, Baum made the comments while discussing Sweeney's hit 2023 film Anyone But You during a screening of 1988's Dead Ringers at the Jacob Burns Film Center.

“I wanted to know who she is and why everybody's talking about her,” Baum said according to The Daily Mail. “I watched this unwatchable movie—sorry to people who love this movie[(this) romantic comedy where they hate each other.”

She went on to express confusion about Sweeney's popularity. “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me,’” Baum reportedly said. “She's not pretty. She can't act. Why is she so hot?'"

In an email statement to multiple news outlets, Sweeney's representative hit back at the characterization.

“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” the statement said. “If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum’s character.”

According to a report from TMZ, Baum is "expressing regret" about her statements, which she likely did not think would become national news. Sweeney's collaborators, meanwhile, have already come to her defense.

Anyone But You grossed over $200 million at the box office, a massive sum for the moribund romantic comedy genre.
