It’s evident that people are making a statement with their fashion at this year’s Emmy Awards. But Sarah Sophie Flicker, wife of Jesse Peretz, director of the TV show GLOW, is making the loudest proclamation with the words “Stop Kavanaugh” written on her arm.
Appearing alongside her husband on the red carpet, Flicker was ready to grab people’s attention in a bright red dress with matching hair accessories. The best accessory of all, however, was spread across her flexed arm: a plea for viewers to call their senators to stop the vote confirming Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
In a video posted to Flicker’s Instagram stories before she stepped out on the red carpet, Peretz is seen giving his wife a hand with the look, as he uses a permanent marker to write out the words, as well as the phone number of the U.S. Capitol switchboard. But this isn’t the most outspoken that Flicker has been about keeping Kavanaugh off of the Supreme Court bench.
Even before sexual assault allegations were made public against the nominee, Flicker had posted a number of messages to her social media against Kavanaugh, about toxic masculinity, and in solidarity with the #MeToo movement.
CALL SENATORS DAILY (or a few times a day): (202) 224-3121. * #Kavanaugh’s confirmation process should have been stopped when GOP Senators refused to release his complete record. * #kavanaugh’s hearings should have been stopped when we found out he misled the Senate during his hearings. * Today, with the serious sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, the confirmation process must immediately stop. There is no excuse. A man who is accused of sexual violence has NO business holding the lives, rights, future and health of all women in his hands. #StopKavanaugh * Nothing has changed since Anita Hill bravely spoke out against Clarence Thomas. We cannot allow another predator onto the Supreme Court. We already have one in the White House. Rise Up All! You too men! #keepshowingup #stayhuman #resist #stopkavanaugh #cancelkavanaugh Image via @prochoiceamerica & @femalecollective

This is the truth. This is also about so much more than #Roe. CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW: 202-224-3121 ——————————————————— We must #StopKavanaugh because he could be the decisive vote on: •Ending Roe v. Wade •Dismantling the Affordable Care Act •Shielding Trump from any accountability for illegal or corrupt acts •Kavanaugh has attacked the independence of the special prosecutor •He has argued that the president should essentially be above the law, immune to indictment or investigation •He said that maybe U.S. v. Nixon, the unanimous Supreme Court decision during Watergate that said the president is not above the law, was incorrectly decided •Bringing back the use of torture •Increased secret electronic surveillance of Americans •Laws aimed at protecting consumers and free speech on the Internet (Kavanaugh argued against the constitutionality of net neutrality) •Protections for consumers in the financial sector – from big banks, predatory creditors, and others (Kavanaugh argued against the constitutionality of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) •Ending the separation of church and state in key areas •Letting even more Big Money into our politics and elections •LGBTQ equality and discrimination •Voting rights •Disability rights •Workers’ rights •Civil rights in other key areas •Women’s equality and gender discrimination •Racial Justice •Environmental protections •The social safety net, including New Deal and Great Society programs like Social •Security, Medicare, and Medicaid •The ability of governmental agencies to protect consumers, workers, and the public in any number of ways (Kavanaugh seems eager and ready to be a weapon in the Far Right’s war on what Trump’s white nationalist former advisor Steve Bannon called “the administrative state” – something Bannon said it was the goal of the Trump administration to dismantle) •Gerrymandering •The treatment of immigrants •Partisan politicization of any number of issues that will be decided by the Court •And more…….. #kavanaugh #stayhuman #keepshowingup #resist #stopkavanaugh #cancelkavanaugh #whatsatstake

With this latest exhortation on one of the biggest red carpets of the year, Flicker is doing her part to get her message out there.
