The actress, best known for her role in Sex and the City, officially threw her hat into the ring on Monday. Her announcement included a video of her with her family, including wife Christine Marinoni and their son, Max. (She also has two children from a previous relationship.) The accompanying video talked about how she grew up in NYC with her single mother. She described herself as a “proud public school graduate — and a prouder public school parent.”

“I was given chances I just don’t see for New York’s kids today,” Nixon said in the video. “Our leaders are letting us down. We are now the most unequal state in the entire country — with both incredible wealth and extreme poverty. Half the kids in our upstate cities live below the poverty line. How did we let this happen?”

Nixon shared some of her platform, saying she wants to fix health care and the broken subway system in addition to ending mass incarceration. She noted that for the past 17 years, she’s been “fighting for better schools, better health care, and LGBTQ equality.”

At one point, there is footage of her walking down an NYC street with her voice-over: “I love New York. I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else. But something has to change.” Watch it and tell us you aren’t getting total Miranda Hobbes vibes.

The lifelong New Yorker has been politically active in recent years. Earlier this month there was a report that she was considering a run and assembling a team on the chance that she did decide to seek the governor’s office.

In January, she wrote an op-ed for CNN in which she said that “each one of us has to do whatever we can to take the government back.” She said that included “taking the leap to run for office ourselves.” In the article, she described Donald Trump’s first year in office as “a dark year for many in America.”

During an appearance on the Today show last year, she called out New York’s current governor, Andrew Cuomo for inequities in school funding. He’s also a Democrat, so she would potentially be challenging him in the primary in September.

Nixon has been acting since she was 12 but really made a mark starring alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City from 1998 to 2004. Nixon, whose character, Miranda, was an attorney, also appeared in the two SATC movies, of which there will be no more (and not just because she’ll be busy running for office). She won an Emmy for the role — and picked up another one in 2008 for a guest appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Nixon has also won two Tony Awards for her work on Broadway.
