Santa Fe International Film Festival named one of 50 festivals worth the entry fee

Apr. 22—New Mexico, a prime destination for filmmakers, has its fair share of annual film festivals.

But only one was named a top 50 festival in the country worth the entry fee.

MovieMaker Magazine last week announced its list of festivals worth the money, and the Santa Fe International Film Festival made the list.

"MovieMaker's recognition of the Santa Fe International Film Festival demonstrates our festival's steadfast dedication to supporting and promoting filmmakers," festival director Stephanie Love-Riner said in a statement to The New Mexican. "As SFiFF's team plans its festival this upcoming October, we look forward to keeping the festival centered around the creative and talented filmmakers and moviemakers that enrich our event each year."

MovieMaker compiles its annual list based on factors such as how many films are submitted versus how many films are chosen, cost and location.

"Located in the No. 1 town on our list of the Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker, SFIFF has a best-of-both worlds appeal: It feels far from the pressure of the coasts, but New Mexico is fast-becoming one of the world's great film hubs. (Oppenheimer shooting outside Santa Fe didn't hurt.)" wrote MovieMaker.

The recognition for the Santa Fe festival follows another by the magazine, which ranked the City Different for the second year running No. 1 in its annual list of Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker.

This year, the Santa Fe International Film Festival is set to take place October 16-20.
