The plot points in the campy Netflix series Emily in Paris have spanned locations from Chicago and Paris to London and St. Tropez. But as viewers await the fourth season of the popular show, leading lady Lily Collins has revealed that production is once again on the move: get ready for Emily in Italy.

“Thinking about the Roman Empire…” Collins wrote on Instagram beneath a photo of herself in front of the Colosseum. In a separate post over the weekend, she captioned a picture with co-star Ashley Park: “When you’re the first ones on the dance floor at the Paris wrap party. Next stop: Rome!”

Filming for the season wrapped in France last week and swiftly picked back up in Italy. The actress — who plays the titular role of the aspiring marketing executive and social media influencer — first began hinting at the big move in February.

“While Emily’s heart will always remain true to Paris, her life takes some unexpected twists this season. Don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday,” she teased in a promotional video filmed for Netflix’s Tudum global fan event in Brazil. Collins also promised that the new set of episodes would deliver “more fun, more fashion and of course, more drama.”

At the conclusion of season three, nearly the entire cast is in shambles. Emily’s good friend-turned-friendly enemy Camille ((Camille Razat) leaves her boyfriend Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) at the altar because she knows that he’s in love with Emily, but also announces to the entire wedding audience that she’s pregnant. Emily’s own relationship with a Londoner named Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) falls apart for the same reason, but at least no one in this pairing is with child. Things are really only looking up for Mindy (Park), whose band has been invited to perform at Eurovision.

In a review of the most recent season, which premiered in December 2022, Rolling Stone wrote: “Part of what made the last two seasons of Emily in Paris compelling was the show’s willingness to adopt off-beat humor and larger-than-life fashions. This one allowed everyone to succumb to normalcy. This season should have leaned into the show’s situational absurdity, in both demeanor and sense of style. By the time the finale brings together the characters for the first real conflict of the season, it’s too late — the momentum of the show’s been lost, and even the cliffhanger feels like a last-ditch attempt at drama.”
