Retired Cubs Player’s ‘Magic Mike’ Performance a Home Run on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Former Cubs baseball player David Ross smashed it out of the park on Dancing With the Stars when he performed a jazz routine with a Magic Mike theme.

Ross and his dance partner, Lindsay Arnold, performed to rapper 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop.” Ross was nervous about taking his shirt off for the routine — based on a male stripper movie — saying, “I’m still debating whether to go shirtless or not. I don’t know if I want to show the boiler, the love handles.”

Eventually Ross revealed that he was wearing an undershirt with a muscular body painted onto it. That didn’t stop the judges from heaping lots of praise on the former catcher’s performance.

Carrie Ann Inaba said, “Move over Magic Mike, make room for super Dave!” And the usually grumpy Len Goodman said, “It was fun, it was entertaining, and I thought it was terrific.”

Ross and Arnold ultimately received the fourth highest score of the night, with a combined 31 points. And based on the way the crowd reacted, Ross is probably going to be dancing into the postseason.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
