Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler had fans giddy as they dropped a teaser on Instagram that leads us to believe that a new adaptation of Romeo + Juliet is on the way.

The duo dropped two halves of the same image, with Connor sharing an R and Zegler sharing a J, with both letters upon a cryptic background of Teddy Bears, which got fans speculating in the comments about the hidden meaning.

Instagram user @nuthin_talors_version commented on Kit Connor's post, "I love watching everybody freak out. Its obviously Rachel Zegler as Juliet and Kit as Romeo. but my question is whats with the plushie animals in the vackground?"

Even MTV got in on the fun, commenting on Rachel Zegler's post "WHAT'S HAPPENING RACHEL" before heading over to Connor's account to say "OK NOW I'M REALLY LOSING IT".

Both Zegler and Connor captioned their photos with a heart and dagger emoji with the location set as Verona, confirming the duo will star as the iconic star-crossed lovers.

The only question left is: Will it be in a stage or screen adaptation?

Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers are already set to star in a West End adaptation, with a Broadway transfer confirmed. Is it possible that a Zegler/Connor stage adaptation could co-exist? Sure. But it is still up in the air what the project is and who else is involved.

Zegler hit the scene with a statement. Her first role in a feature film was Maria in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, a film that went on to secure seven Academy Award nominations and won Ariana DeBose her first Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Since then, Zegler has been booked and busy, starring in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and, most recently, leading The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She also just had a film debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival called Y2K and is playing Snow White in a new adaptation from director Marc Webb written by Erin Cressida Wilson and Barbie's Greta Gerwig.

Kit Connor's film and television career dates back to 2013 when he appeared in an episode of TV Series Chickens as Clem. Since then, he has appeared in feature films such as Rocketman, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Spielberg's Ready Player One.

Connor currently stars as Nick Nelson in the popular Netflix series based on Alice Oseman's Heartstopper graphic novels. The show follows Charlie and Nick, whose unlikely friendship blossoms into something more.

UPDATE: It has now been revealed that Connor and Zegler will make their Broadway debut in the production that will be a contemporary spin on the tale. It will be directed by Sam Gold and feature music from Jack Antonoff.
