While most of us can’t wait for the upcoming “Polin” sex scenes in season 3 of Bridgerton, featuring fan-favorite couple Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), there are some people who would rather avoid those steamy scenes: Coughlan’s Irish Catholic family! The Ireland native revealed that she delicately censors all the more *ahem* romantic scenes before her family watches — and we don’t blame her at all!

In an interview on SiriusXM Hits 1 on Thursday, per Independent, Coughlan revealed that Netflix provides her parents with a PG cut of her starring season of Bridgerton. “It’s literally written into my contract,” Coughlan said. “People think I’m like saying it as a joke. I just don’t want to. I grew up Irish Catholic. That’s just not how we vibe.”

Totally get it! Can you imagine how awkward not doing that would make future family get-togethers? Happy Thanksgiving, and BTW we know what your face looks like when you’re having sex. Cringe! As a parent, believe me when I say no parent should have to experience this.

Despite their religious traditions, the Derry Girls star added that her mom had a cute reaction to the sex scenes in Season 1. “When she first saw Bridgerton, she didn’t know it was gonna be so saucy,” Coughlan revealed. “And then you get a bottom, Jonathan Bailey’s lovely bottom, about two minutes into the first episode ever. And she was like, ‘What is this?’ But then, now she thinks it’s fantastic and really funny, and she keeps talking about bottoms.”

Although, Coughlan’s parents might not have too many scenes edited out. In 2022, intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot told Business Insider that several sex scenes were cut from Season 2 of Bridgerton. “[We spent] two days on episode seven, so you can imagine there was a bunch more in it!” she told the outlet, referencing the first big sex scene between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), which ended up being less than 2 minutes long. “There’s always sex scenes that don’t make the final edit.”

That doesn’t mean it was less hot, though. Talbot explained Season 2 focused more on the “slow sizzle” that emphasized “the yearning, the hand grazes, the looks, and the vulnerability” between Kate and Anthony.

Thanks to the long friendship between Colin and Penelope — and the charged teaser trailer! — we can hardly wait to see how these characters’ intimate scenes play out.  But maybe we could also get a PG version in case we want to watch with our parents or our kids, Netflix? That would be great!
